Mathas' tracks always grab me pretty hard, but this one brings back very specific memories. I grabbed this copy when I covered it for the WAMis this year. It's one of the best tunes outta Perth ever.
A song about respecting that you are always learning to grow and evolve so you should never dismiss the fact that somebody has likely been there before. It's about acknowledging your predicament with good humour.
lyrics
I watched this kid the other day with his face melting off,
porridge in his politics, cozy in his socks.
So many downers he’s asleep in his pizza,
petering awake to passed out with each piece
and the cheese was dripping off the ketamine scrunch with his eyes sunk heavy in their bunks,
imaginary weight lulling him down,
heavy as the nevermind everyone has come to crown in our tipping lifetime.
Path-find, half-arsed, half mind ticking over,
last laugh comes when the pleasure dome cracks,
etiquette slacks coal black in the turbines,
wind power couldn’t blow this kid to his feet.
So nature takes a back seat to endorphins,
pumping so rapidly this cat still gurns while he’s snoring,
looks at me laughing like I’m law enforcement,
like I don’t understand why being high’s important?
It aint new kiddo, don’t pretend you’re the biz,
when I was that wasted I didn’t know shit,
I aint being arrogant,
Some of us have to go through a chemical phase to outer the blues.
But it aint new kiddo, don’t pretend you’re the biz
when I was that wasted I didn’t know shit.
Going doctorshopping so often it’s odd to be off em,
clocking on boffins of toxins offered for profit, make your speech laaaggg..
Pharmaceuticals built for farm animals, into the k-hole we go bro stay close.
Post your status to a cable car headed to the same destination,
information graveyard,
we blaze vacant, haze makeshift, painstaking, delayed greyness,
empty void gazes,
animal injecting, running with the stallions, passed out on barstools,
inanimate database, cosy as the pillow-talk following the drop,
and the bliss on the ventricles when pill seal pop.
I’ll admit to myself I still really wanna be him,
stardom til the last stage calling carpe diem,
the dude’s data’s on some C++ when I see him,
always hungry on that coke crust lust, id pay to be in.
So now I’m all growns up and the highs all suck,
and I’m trying to cut back on the ones they can tax,
and I’m fiending in secret for a rush I could touch like a thick cloud,
from a time when the buzz was heavy in its petting on a level of adrenalin,
in heaven with an unsettled vendetta,
telling me to hug everybody till the thug turn trend setter,
marshmallow world in a fleece sweater.
Two fat bricks from the hungry spot,
30 second cream charge 8 per lot,
8 times 30 seconds worth its bucks,
but now I’m too fuckin old for a nitrous influx.
It aint new kiddo, don’t pretend you’re the biz,
when I was that wasted I didn’t know shit,
I aint being arrogant,
Some of us have to go through a chemical phase to outer the blues.
I understand dude,
just don’t be a douche.

This guy is one of the most idiosyncratic producers I know, making an odd mix of world music and hip hop. In the 90's I woulda said this was trip hop but it goes in too many directions for that. Worth smashing your mind on. Tomás Ford

Empty is an awesome producer. Again, one of Perth's best, his beats are always That Head Nod Shit, and that makes me pretty happy.
Some of this reminds me of Faith No More too. Which is odd and welcome. Tomás Ford
